Do Wedding Trends Matter?

As with any industry, weddings evolve over time. Every year new wedding trends come out. Everything from colors to flowers, menu items to decor change.

And like fashion, wedding trends come and go. What’s cool or hip or “in” changes.

Remember when photobooths were the new hip thing? Or when mint green was everywhere? Or when mason jars were being used for everything?

Some things last and some things don’t.

But the important question is, should you care?

While some couples want a trendy wedding, most want a wedding that reflects them. One that’s personal and meaningful.

If that’s you, then the answer is no. No, you shouldn’t care.

And here’s why…

Wedding trends have NOTHING to do with you. They have nothing to do with who you are, your story, your past or your personality.

Which means they have nothing to do with your wedding.

If you’re trying to create a personalized wedding, one that’s thoughtful, then you’re not looking at wedding trends at all.

Because they don’t matter at all.

They aren’t going to play any factor in what has meaning for you.

Just look at the declared Pantone color of the year, Classic Blue. Just because a color has been deemed THE color, does that mean anything to you?

Likely not.

Unless that happens to be your favorite color. In which case, that’s something you already loved and has nothing to do with it being a trend.

Or take the trend of dried grasses, flowers and leaves, do those mean anything to you? Once again, likely not.

But, if it did, that meaning has nothing to do with trends. It’s because it reminds you of something you saw or experienced.

When you’re creating a wedding with meaning, you’re pulling from your past, from who you are and from your experiences.

You’re incorporating those personal pieces which is what makes it personal.

And none of that has anything to do with what’s trending.

So, do wedding trends matter? Not at all.

It doesn’t matter what’s in or out.

It doesn’t matter if you do something in vogue or totally outdated.

Just do you! Because that will result in YOUR wedding. A wedding with meaning.

Which means, you’ll create wedding that never goes out of style.
