Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: Budget Friendly Wedding Venues

Wedding Wednesdays Q&A by Jamie Chang Destination Wedding Planner of Mango Muse Events and creator of Passport to Joy

Q:  I’m starting to plan my wedding and I’m struggling to find a venue.  I don’t have $10,000 or $5,000 to spend on my venue.  How do I find a budget friendly wedding venue?

This is one of the most common struggles I hear, so you’re not alone.  Finding your wedding venue is a huge task because it’s also how you settle on your date.  And you can’t plan much else without that.  So, you can feel some extra pressure.  Especially because your venue will affect your budget as a whole and the other vendors you bring on board as well.

But, don’t stress out!  The good news is that there are tons of wedding venues out there.  Which means you can find the right one for you and your budget.

So, let’s get to your question, how do you find budget friendly wedding venues?  While there are some well-known budget friendly wedding venues, most are a little harder to find.  Which is why it can seem a bit impossible.

To start, you’ll want to think outside of the box.  So, think beyond hotels, the popular banquet hall and other venues you see listed online.  Those are the venues that advertise and work hard to be seen as a wedding venue.  They usually almost always are more expensive as well.

But, what you’re looking for are the ones that don’t advertise as a wedding venue.  They either have some other main function or just fly under the radar.  These venues are usually more cost effective because weddings/events aren’t their “thing”.  Some good examples are restaurants, community or city based venues, and private estates.

To find these venues, start by doing some scouting and wander around your neighborhood (or the neighborhood you’re looking at).  You’d be surprised what you come across.  There might be a restaurant with a beautiful patio.  Or a store with an amazing vibe and communal space.  Or a city based community center that’s casual and quaint.

Another way to find these venues is to search online.  Don’t blindly search, be strategic and search for your specific area.  What you’ll find are listings, but also real weddings.  Check out the real weddings and see the venues listed.  An under the radar option most likely was used before and there will not only be pictures but information too.

Finding your budget friendly wedding venue just takes a little creativity and thinking outside the box.  There are a ton of venues that fly under the radar but are great options.  Think beyond the normal wedding venues and you’ll find the wedding venue that is right for you.
